The Pinole Historical Society, in
co-sponsorship with the City of Pinole Community Services Commission,
attracts a crowd of approximately 200 people to the city’s Veterans’ Day
Memorial and Flag Retirement Ceremony
on Sunday, November 11, at 11 a.m. in
Fernandez Park.

Many veterans, students, and adults participated on a warm, sunny morning.

We gather at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month because on November 11, 1918, the armistace that ended World War I, “the Great War,” took effect, and hostilities ended.

Numerous local groups participate: the Pinole Valley High School Marching Band, the Pinole Valley High School and St. Joseph School choruses, The Pinole Police Explorers, the West Contra Costa Girl Scouts, the Mayor of Pinole, various elected officials, and Pinole Boy Scout Troop 86, which conducts a stirring, respectful flag retirement ceremony in the park.

Please e-mail the Pinole Historical Society at info@pinolehistoricalsociety.org if you would like to have a flag retired for this year's event. Please put FLAG RETIREMENT in the subject line. Or, you may call PHS board member Jeff Rubin at 724-9507. People may bring flags to the event to be retired.

The Pinole Historical Society also has a supply of new U.S. flags which are available for a tax-deductible $25 donation to the society. Please e-mail of call Jeff Rubin if you would like a new flag. Please put NEW FLAG in the subject line.
